For years, the Jacksonville Jaguars held sway in the AFC South, but now the Houston Texans are poised to assert themselves as the dominant force. The Jaguars have been busy during this offseason, bolstering their roster with numerous signings in hopes of improvement. While their acquisitions may not have grabbed headlines, sometimes it’s the smaller moves that make the biggest impact. Their latest addition is Josiah Deguara, a former tight end for the Green Bay Packers.

Deguara, drafted in the third round of the 2020 NFL Draft by the Packers, struggled to make a mark in Green Bay. During his four-year tenure, he managed just 436 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Although initially brought in as a blocking tight end, he failed to shine in that role either. His challenges may have been exacerbated by playing alongside Aaron Rodgers, who didn’t always mesh well with rookies. The drafting of Luke Musgrave and Tucker Kraft last year signaled the Packers’ readiness to move on from Deguara, as both rookies quickly surpassed him.

Can The Jaguars Take Down The Texans?

Houston appears poised to dominate their division for the foreseeable future, with CJ Stroud showing promise as a franchise quarterback. The team’s aggressive offseason moves, bolstering both offensive and defensive arsenals, aim to support their young signal-caller. Meanwhile, Jacksonville must prove that their lackluster 2023 season was an anomaly. Despite Trevor Lawrence’s status as one of the league’s top quarterbacks and a solid defense, the Jaguars need to elevate their performance. Their hopes rest, in part, on unlocking Josiah Deguara’s potential, hoping for better results than the Green Bay Packers achieved. Can Jacksonville reclaim postseason glory in 2024?
