Giants GM Joe Schoen Drops Subtle Hints in Pre-Draft Presser Amid Uncertain QB Plans
New York Giants general manager Joe Schoen addressed the media during a pre-draft press conference on Wednesday, offering subtle insights without revealing too much. While the need for a franchise quarterback is no secret, it remains unclear whether the Giants will target one in the 2025 NFL Draft.
Despite signing veterans Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston to stabilize the quarterback room for now, neither is viewed as the long-term answer. Schoen and his staff are continuing evaluations and keeping their draft strategy close to the vest. The idea of selecting a young quarterback who can develop behind the veterans remains a viable option—especially outside of the first round, where several intriguing prospects may be available.
Of course, quarterback isn’t the only pressing need. The Giants hold eight total picks in this year’s draft and are thoroughly evaluating multiple positions. Their scouting process has included Pro Days, a local showcase, top-30 visits, and now, private workouts.
Schoen confirmed that these private sessions aren’t limited to quarterbacks. “You’re trying to connect the schedules,” he explained. “This was the week where we could get out there and do some of these private workouts… We’re not just doing this with quarterbacks. There’s a couple of other positions that we have private workouts coming up as well.”
Though he declined to specify which positions or prospects are involved, Schoen emphasized the importance of preparation and precision in what could be a pivotal draft for the franchise. With both Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll potentially coaching for their jobs, every pick carries weight.
As the countdown to the draft continues, the pressure is mounting—and the Giants’ front office knows this year’s success could determine who’s still in the building come 2026.
