The Colorado Buffaloes have recently ramped up their recruiting efforts, though they’ve yet to land a commitment from the 2026 class. Head coach Deion Sanders and his staff have hosted numerous visits in recent weeks, including one from three-star quarterback Brodie McWhorter.
According to the On3 Industry Rankings, McWhorter is ranked No. 69 in Georgia and the No. 39 quarterback nationwide. Though previously committed to West Virginia, McWhorter reopened his recruitment and named his final seven schools in February: Colorado, Indiana, Auburn, Mississippi State, Syracuse, West Virginia, and Wisconsin. He’s currently visiting each program ahead of his May 15 commitment.
“These schools checked the boxes for relationships, development, and scheme fit,” McWhorter told On3. “They’ve all made me feel like a priority.”
One potential drawback with Colorado is early playing time. The Buffaloes’ 2025 class includes four-star QB Julian Lewis, who’s currently in a quarterback battle with Liberty transfer Kaidon Salter and sophomore Ryan Staub. If Lewis secures the starting job, McWhorter could be looking at limited opportunities early on.
Coach Sanders has a unique recruiting strategy, often targeting a small number of players ready to contribute immediately instead of redshirting a large freshman class. “If you bring in 25 players and only four or five play as freshmen, how many of the rest stick around after spring?” Sanders explained.
Despite limited 2026 commitments, the Colorado coaching staff — full of NFL experience — continues to be a strong selling point for recruits aiming for pro careers.
Sanders also recently signed a five-year extension with Colorado, ending rumors of an NFL move and bringing stability to the program. That clarity could help spark commitments soon.
McWhorter was originally scheduled for an official visit in June, but with his announcement date moved up to May 15, Colorado may have made a lasting impression — even though West Virginia remains a favorite.
