The New England Patriots struggled at every turn last season, finishing with a disappointing 4-13 record. Despite Jerod Mayo’s defensive expertise as a former Super Bowl-winning linebacker, his first year as head coach saw the defense slip from 15th in 2023 to 22nd in 2024.

Now, another former Patriots linebacker, Mike Vrabel, steps in to turn things around. His success may depend on the return of star defensive tackle Christian Barmore, who signed an $83 million contract after a breakout 8.5-sack season in 2023. Unfortunately, he was limited to just four games last year due to blood clots.

However, optimism is growing about Barmore’s return. According to Christopher Price of the Boston Globe, there’s “a cautious sense of optimism” that he’ll be ready to contribute in 2025.

Turning 26 this summer, Barmore will now have support from newly signed pass-rusher Milton Williams, potentially strengthening a Patriots defensive front eager for a resurgence.
