As several Notre Dame football players arrive at the NFL Combine this week, one former Irish star is letting his résumé do the talking. Xavier Watts has opted out of workouts in Indianapolis, choosing instead to meet with NFL teams and share his mindset as he prepares for the next level.
Watts’ decision is both bold and strategic. Given his strong body of work, participating in physical drills might do little to boost his draft stock—and could even work against him. That’s why he’s taking the same approach that led him to skip the Senior Bowl: prioritizing rest and ensuring he’s fully prepared before showcasing his skills.
Rather than pushing himself at the Combine, Watts plans to take center stage at Notre Dame’s Pro Day later this spring, where he’ll demonstrate his athleticism on his own terms. For now, his focus remains on connecting with front offices and proving he’s ready for the league.
