The Denver Broncos will prioritize offensive additions in free agency and the draft this offseason, but they won’t ignore the defensive side of the ball.

Vance Joseph’s defense led the NFL in sacks last season and featured Defensive Player of the Year Pat Surtain II. However, many analysts believe the safety position needs an upgrade. After parting ways with Justin Simmons and Caden Sterns, the Broncos brought in Brandon Jones, who proved to be a fantastic signing. Meanwhile, P.J. Locke struggled in his starting role after primarily serving as a special teams and rotational player throughout his career.

While Denver could look to the draft for a safety, Matt Johnson of Sportsnaut suggests they should turn to free agency and pursue one of the league’s top young safeties, Jevon Holland.

“Despite boasting one of the NFL’s best defenses last season, safety was a glaring weakness for the Broncos,” Johnson wrote. “Adding a playmaker like Jevon Holland, who fits Denver’s competitive window, makes sense. Though he had a down year in 2024, Holland was among the league’s best safeties the season before. Placing him behind Patrick Surtain II and alongside Nik Bonitto could make this a top-three defense in 2025.”

Denver would undoubtedly love to land Holland, but competition will be fierce. Spotrac projects the 25-year-old safety to command a four-year, $60 million deal, averaging $15 million annually.

In four seasons with the Dolphins, Holland has recorded 301 tackles, five sacks, and five interceptions, including a 99-yard pick-six. The Broncos successfully poached Jones from Miami last year—could history repeat itself with Holland?
