Four-star wide receiver Mason James from Norman North High School in Oklahoma has included Notre Dame in his top 10 schools, despite receiving their offer most recently. The news was reported by On3 national recruiting reporter Hayes Fawcett.

James, a 6-foot, 160-pound prospect, has narrowed his choices to Notre Dame, Arizona State, Florida, Kansas State, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, and Washington. He holds 30 total offers and is ranked No. 213 overall and No. 36 among wide receivers in the 2026 class according to the On3 Industry Ranking. Notre Dame wide receivers coach Mike Brown extended the offer on Feb. 6.

James is Oklahoma’s top-ranked player and plays just four miles from Oklahoma’s Gaylord Family Memorial Stadium. He has taken at least eight unofficial visits to OU’s campus. Despite visits to Alabama, Texas A&M, Tennessee, Miami, Nebraska, California, Stanford, Kansas, Baylor, Michigan State, and Oklahoma State, none of those schools made his top 10. Oregon, Penn State, Arkansas, SMU, Arizona, and BYU were also left out.

Last season, James proved himself as a top recruit, recording 56 receptions for 1,233 yards and 17 touchdowns over 12 games. His team, the Timberwolves, finished with a 4-8 record.

Landing James would be a major recruiting win for Notre Dame coach Marcus Freeman. The Irish have rarely recruited successfully from Oklahoma, signing only two players from the state in the internet recruiting era—George West (2006) and Matt Romine (2007).

Notre Dame previously secured a 2025 commitment from Oklahoma four-star tight end Nate Roberts, but he decommitted and ultimately signed with Ohio State. The Irish also pursued Oklahoma cornerback Trystan Haynes in 2025 but instead landed top-150 prospects Dallas Golden and Mark Zackery IV.

Notre Dame currently has one commitment in the 2026 class: three-star wide receiver Dylan Faison from Boca Raton (Fla.) Saint Andrew’s School. He is the younger brother of current Irish receiver Jordan Faison and ranks as the No. 517 overall player in his class.
