Pittsburgh Penguins star Sidney Crosby Sidney Crosby missed practice Wednesday as he was evaluated for an upper-body injury sustained in Tuesday’s 3-2 shootout loss to the New Jersey Devils. The injury appeared to affect his left arm or shoulder after a collision with Luke Hughes and Erik Haula in the third period.
Despite the setback, Crosby downplayed concerns postgame, saying, “I just got tangled up.” Coach Mike Sullivan provided no further details but emphasized the team’s next-man-up mentality, stating, “We’re going to put the best group on the ice that we have available.”
The Penguins (22-24-9, 53 points) are struggling in the Eastern Conference wild-card race, going 5-8-4 in their last 17 games. With crucial matchups against the New York Rangers on Friday and the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday, Pittsburgh hopes to have its captain back soon.
Crosby, 37, is in his 20th NHL season and has recorded 17 goals and 41 assists in 55 games. He currently ranks ninth all-time with 1,654 career points and is set to captain Team Canada in the upcoming 4 Nations Face-Off.
