The Denver Broncos experienced a setback this past Thursday, suffering a 34-27 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers after a strong start to their season. Just two games prior, the Broncos had secured an impressive 41-32 victory over the Cleveland Browns on Monday Night Football. Following that win, defensive lineman Shelby Harris made a controversial statement about rookie quarterback Bo Nix that caught attention.
Harris, a former Broncos player with five years of experience, suggested that Nix has benefited greatly from the Broncos’ defense, and that the young QB’s inexperience at the professional level has occasionally been evident. On his podcast, Harris explained, “I think he needs to make the little throws. It’s a lot of flare. Obviously, that big throw is going to get a lot of airtime. We’re going to talk about it. It was a huge throw. But also, the other throw should’ve been an interception.”
He continued, “So we can say, ‘Oh my God, great arm’ and all that, but I think he’s still a rookie. Obviously, the ceiling is there, he can be a very good quarterback, but he did just enough and he lived off that defense.”
As Harris’ comments went viral, he responded to fans on Twitter/X, acknowledging the backlash with a playful remark: “Y’all sassy 😂😂 sassy and sensitive.”
Harris’ take sparked strong reactions from fans and analysts alike, with some supporting his view that Nix has room for improvement, while others defended the young quarterback’s potential and growth.
