As Seattle Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith manages a knee injury, the team has decided to add a new quarterback to the active roster ahead of their Sunday game against the Minnesota Vikings.
The new addition is Jaren Hall, a former Vikings quarterback who is quite familiar with the team they will face. Hall, who was drafted in the fifth round of the 2023 NFL Draft, had started two games for the Vikings last season. Despite showing promise during the preseason, he was ultimately released before the regular season began. Now, he will join the Seahawks’ 53-man roster and could potentially serve as the game-day emergency quarterback. If Smith or backup quarterback Sam Howell were to get injured or unable to play, Hall would be eligible to step in.
Though Smith participated fully in practice throughout the week and carries no official injury designation, it’s clear he’s not operating at full strength. Coach Mike Macdonald acknowledged that while Smith has worked hard to prepare himself for the game, it’s uncertain how his injury will affect his performance on Sunday. “I wouldn’t think he would tell you he’s 100 percent, but he’s done everything he possibly can to be ready to go and be in a good frame of mind going into the game, but I’m not sure if and how it will show up,” Macdonald commented.
With the addition of Hall to the active roster, the Seahawks are taking proactive steps to ensure they have sufficient depth at quarterback in case of an emergency situation during the game against the Vikings. As Seattle prepares for Sunday’s matchup, it remains to be seen how Smith’s knee injury will impact his performance, with Hall potentially ready to step in if needed.
