The Kentucky Wildcats celebrated a dramatic victory over the Gonzaga Bulldogs on Saturday, but the win came with an unfortunate setback. During the second half, senior point guard Kerr Kriisa suffered a foot injury that forced him to leave the game early. Following the match, Kriisa was visibly in severe pain in the locker room.
The university has now confirmed that Kriisa will be sidelined indefinitely due to the injury, which will require surgery. Although the school indicated that this injury isn’t anticipated to be season-ending, the timeline for his return remains uncertain. Kriisa had been a consistent presence for the Wildcats this season, playing in all nine games and contributing an average of 4.4 points and 3.8 assists per game. He had his first start of the season in Saturday’s thrilling comeback victory over Gonzaga, where he scored a season-high eight points, surpassing the 1,000-point milestone for his career.
According to Jeff Goodman from Stadium, the estimated recovery time for Kriisa’s injury is between three to six weeks, which means there is a possibility he could return in time for the early part of the SEC schedule. Kentucky’s conference play kicks off on January 4th when they face 13th-ranked Florida at home. Fans are hopeful for Kriisa’s quick recovery and potential return to the lineup.
