Newcastle United injuries: Kieran Trippier has been ruled out for several weeks due to scan results on his leg injury.
Kieran Trippier has been sidelined from Newcastle United’s upcoming matches against Chelsea and Manchester City due to a calf injury he sustained during their recent victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers. Despite feeling optimistic about his recovery, scan results have confirmed his absence for the fixtures against Chelsea and Manchester City in both the Premier League and FA Cup. Additionally, it’s anticipated that he may miss out on selection for England’s friendly matches against Brazil and Belgium. However, there’s hope for his return by the match against West Ham United on March 30.
Trippier, who has contributed significantly with 11 assists this season, has been a crucial player under Eddie Howe’s management. In his absence, Tino Livramento is expected to step in. Although Trippier expressed positivity about his calf, he awaits confirmation from medical staff regarding his availability for the next match against Chelsea.
Eddie Howe has praised Trippier as one of his best signings, having initially brought him to Burnley and later to Newcastle for £12 million in January 2022. Howe admires Trippier’s exceptional delivery, work ethic, and leadership qualities, emphasizing his invaluable contribution to the team.
1. Matt Targett (hamstring)
Matt Targett suffered a hamstring injury early in Newcastle’s 3-0 Carabao Cup victory over Manchester United and has been sidelined since then. He underwent hamstring surgery in November and was expected to recover within three months. Manager Howe has now stated that Targett has resumed training and is close to making a comeback. It is anticipated that he will return to action against Chelsea on March 11th.
2. Kieran Trippier (calf)
Trippier sustained a calf injury during the 3-0 victory against Wolves last Saturday, leading to his early exit from the match. A scan revealed the extent of the injury, confirming his absence for a few weeks. He is anticipated to return by the West Ham game on March 30th.
3. Nick Pope (shoulder)
Nick Pope suffered a shoulder dislocation during a match against Manchester United in December and underwent surgery as a result. Eddie Howe, the manager, has indicated that the goalkeeper is still several weeks away from returning. It’s anticipated that he may be back for the Everton game on the 3rd of April.
4. Callum Wilson (chest)
Wilson successfully played the full 90 minutes at Nottingham Forest, but he finished the game with his arm supported in an improvised sling. It’s now known that he sustained a pectoral injury in his chest and has undergone surgery. His anticipated comeback is scheduled for the Burnley away match on May 4th.
