East Carolina Cornerback Shavon Revel Declares for 2025 NFL Draft After Overcoming Setbacks

East Carolina cornerback Shavon Revel has officially declared for the 2025 NFL Draft, opting to forgo his final year of college eligibility. Revel’s journey to this milestone hasn’t been without challenges, as his 2024 season was cut short after just three games due to a torn ACL.

Revel’s path to prominence was unconventional yet meteoric. Starting at Louisburg College, the former three-star JuCo recruit worked his way up, eventually signing with ECU. After a quiet first season in Greenville, Revel emerged as a force in 2023, becoming one of the AAC’s top defensive backs. He led the conference with 13 passes defensed and showcased versatility with four tackles for loss, a sack, and a fumble recovery returned for a touchdown.

In 2024, offenses tried to avoid him, but Revel still made his presence felt with two interceptions (one returned for a 50-yard touchdown) and two passes defensed in just three games. His dominance, even in limited action, has kept him high on NFL draft boards.

Draft Stock and Rankings

Despite his injury, Revel remains a top cornerback prospect. Pre-injury rankings from ESPN placed him as the second-best cornerback and 14th overall prospect. Analysts like Dane Brugler and Mel Kiper continue to rank him highly, trailing only Michigan’s Will Johnson and Colorado’s Travis Hunter among cornerbacks. Brugler had Revel as high as 12th overall, while Kiper listed him 23rd. Pro Football Focus was slightly less optimistic, ranking him 35th overall but still recognizing his potential.

Why Scouts Are Still High on Revel

Revel’s ideal frame, elite ball-tracking skills, and impressive speed have kept NFL teams intrigued despite his shortened season. His ability to make game-changing plays in coverage and as a pass rusher has drawn comparisons to Quinyon Mitchell, another Group of 5 standout excelling in the NFL.

While his draft position may hinge on his recovery, Revel remains a likely candidate for a first- or second-round selection. With his proven ability to rise above adversity, Revel is poised to make a splash at the next level.
