For the ninth time this offseason, yet another Auburn Tiger has decided to seek a fresh start through the transfer portal.
This time, it’s junior safety Caleb Wooden, who has chosen to transfer after spending three seasons with the program.
Caleb Wooden, a 6-foot-1, 191-pound safety, played in 28 games over three seasons at Auburn, starting nine of them. During his time with the Tigers, Wooden tallied 41 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, one sack, one forced fumble, four pass breakups, and two interceptions.
A three-star recruit according to 247Sports, Wooden hails from Lawrenceville, Georgia, where he attended Archer High School. He was ranked as the No. 852 player nationally, the No. 70 safety in the 2022 class, and the 17th-highest-rated prospect in Auburn’s 2022 recruiting class.
Notably, Wooden is the first Auburn defensive back to enter the transfer portal this offseason. Among the nine Tigers who have opted to transfer, he is also the first to have played a significant role on the field.
Auburn head coach Hugh Freeze and his staff have bolstered their 2025 recruiting class with two talented safeties. Anquon Fegans, a four-star prospect ranked No. 79 nationally, and Eric Winters, another four-star recruit ranked No. 89 nationally, are set to join the Tigers for the 2025 season. The addition of these highly-touted players may have influenced Caleb Wooden’s decision to seek opportunities elsewhere.
