Former Pittsburgh Steelers tight end Eric Ebron has officially announced his retirement from the NFL at the age of 31. Ebron took to Instagram to share the news, posting a heartfelt message along with photos from his football journey. “A Career Is A Career!! I’m Proud Of Me! Thankful for everyone along this journey,” he wrote.
Ebron, drafted 10th overall by the Detroit Lions in 2014, showcased his athleticism and potential early in his career. After four seasons with the Lions, he signed with the Indianapolis Colts in 2018, where he enjoyed his best NFL season. Ebron caught 66 passes for 750 yards and a career-high 13 touchdowns that year, earning a Pro Bowl nod.
In 2020, Ebron joined the Pittsburgh Steelers on a two-year deal, tallying 68 receptions, 642 yards, and six touchdowns over two seasons. His role diminished in 2021 with the emergence of rookie Pat Freiermuth, and injuries further limited his impact, as he appeared in just eight games before being placed on injured reserve.
Before his NFL career, Ebron was a standout at North Carolina, earning All-America Second Team honors in 2013 with 973 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Reflecting on his journey, Ebron shared in a podcast appearance last year that his early years in Detroit were challenging. “I wasn’t ready for Detroit. Detroit wasn’t ready for me,” he admitted, citing his inexperience and immaturity at the time.
Ebron leaves the NFL with 375 receptions, 4,411 receiving yards, and 33 touchdowns over eight seasons, leaving a legacy of perseverance and growth in professional football.
