Oregon Ducks Quarterback Dillon Gabriel Named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year
Oregon Ducks quarterback Dillon Gabriel was honored as the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year on Tuesday after leading the Ducks to an undefeated 12-0 regular season and securing the No. 1 ranking in the nation. Gabriel’s stellar performance in his first season with Oregon has been instrumental in the team’s success.
The sixth-year senior, who transferred from Oklahoma to Oregon in the offseason, has been a force for the Ducks’ high-powered offense. Gabriel finished the 2024 regular season with 3,275 passing yards, 24 touchdowns, and just 6 interceptions. Additionally, he contributed 175 rushing yards and 7 rushing touchdowns, showcasing his versatility and playmaking ability.
In his first year with the Ducks, Gabriel’s leadership helped guide Oregon’s offense to a conference-leading 448.5 yards per game, while ranking third in the Big Ten in points per game with 35.2. His career-best 73.5% completion rate in 2024 has solidified him as one of the top quarterbacks in the country.
While Gabriel’s individual accomplishments are impressive, he remains focused on the ultimate goal: a Big Ten Championship and a National Championship. The Ducks are set to face the Penn State Nittany Lions in the Big Ten Championship game on Saturday night in Indianapolis, where Gabriel will need to be at his best against one of the toughest defenses in the nation.
In addition to being named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year, Gabriel also earned the Big Ten Quarterback of the Year Award, a testament to his outstanding leadership and performance.
Oregon’s first season in the Big Ten has been a resounding success, and a win on Saturday would give the Ducks their first conference championship in the new era.
However, standing in their way is the Penn State defense, ranked No. 2 in the Big Ten in points allowed (14.0 per game) and No. 3 in yards allowed (266.8 per game). Penn State, led by coach James Franklin, is known for its physicality and dominance in the trenches, making Saturday’s showdown a thrilling test for Oregon head coach Dan Lanning and his team.
Kickoff for this highly anticipated Big Ten Championship matchup is set for 5 p.m. PT on CBS in Indianapolis.
