Hammers defender Ben Johnson has declined to accept the new contract offered to him by West Ham, as reported by Hughie Southon. Johnson, who can play in multiple positions, including defense and midfield, is nearing the end of his current contract and is seeking a salary commensurate with regular first-team play. However, the initial offer from the club has been rejected by both him and his representatives.

Given the club’s requirement for a certain number of domestically trained players, they are set to present Johnson with a revised offer and are optimistic about reaching an agreement on the second attempt. Previously, there was confidence that the academy product, who can operate as a defender or wing-back, would agree to terms. Yet, with purported interest from Everton, the 24-year-old now has other potential destinations to consider.

According to a source within the club, negotiations will continue, with a new proposal expected to be tabled within the next few weeks. Despite a dip in form earlier in the season, Johnson has displayed improved performances recently, prompting West Ham’s desire to retain him at the London Stadium.
