The Patriots’ playoff hopes are nearly nonexistent, yet their front office remains active as the trade deadline nears, focusing on potential reinforcements. Per ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, the team is specifically eyeing offensive line upgrades. Before the Jaguars traded Cam Robinson to the Vikings, New England reportedly considered him as an option. They also reached out to free-agent offensive lineman D.J. Humphries, who recently visited the Giants. Although the Patriots are unlikely to spend heavily on temporary solutions, they’re clearly exploring ways to bolster their protection for the quarterback.

New England’s Patriots offensive line has been a weak spot, allowing 27 sacks this season—third most in the league. While veteran Jacoby Brissett was likely prepared for some hits, the Patriots might be especially cautious now, given rookie quarterback Drake Maye’s presence. Maye, the third-overall pick, suffered a concussion last weekend on a scramble, and New England will likely prioritize his protection going forward to safeguard their investment.

Despite limited moves to strengthen the offensive line in the offseason, the Patriots have also been hit with injuries, cycling through 11 different starters. This instability has contributed to the line’s struggles, though performance issues persist; only Mike Onwenu has received a strong grade from Pro Football Focus.

Additionally, Fowler highlighted wide receiver K.J. Osborn as a player to monitor ahead of the trade deadline. Rumors suggest Osborn, an offseason acquisition, may already be looking for an exit from New England. He’s been relegated to the WR4 or WR5 role since Kendrick Bourne’s return and has only managed seven receptions over six games this season.
