The Green Bay Packers’ defense has been instrumental in navigating key injuries to quarterback Jordan Love, and now they’ve made a signing Jamin Davis could offer additional support.

The team has added former Washington Commanders first-round linebacker Jamin Davis to their practice squad, as reported by ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler. “The Packers add LB Jamin Davis to the practice squad,” Fowler noted on X. “Quite the luxury, having a former first-round pick with 36 starts on your practice squad. It wouldn’t be surprising to see him get some game time.”

While Davis hasn’t fully met expectations since his draft, Packers GM Brian Gutekunst has a history of bringing in similar players and leveraging the Packers’ coaching to develop them into productive assets. Examples include Malik Willis, Rasul Douglas, and De’Vondre Campbell—who became an All-Pro with the Packers, and Douglas, who signed a three-year deal.

Notably, Davis played 86 snaps this year, primarily as an edge rusher, though the Packers list him as a linebacker. With seven career sacks and experience as an off-ball linebacker, he brings versatility to the defense. Meanwhile, Quay Walker has had mixed performances, and Edgerrin Cooper has shown promise with increased playtime. The Packers might see Davis as a situational player who could eventually make an impact beyond the practice squad.
