The 71-year-old shares on Instagram, accompanied by a picture outside Calgary’s Foothills Medical Centre, that he’s concluding his “two-week stay with upgraded vocal cords, some sophisticated equipment, and a metaphorically fulfilled spirit.”
Earlier on Feb. 5, McDonald had mentioned how two nurses, coincidentally on their way to flights at Calgary International Airport, came to his aid when he was in distress after returning from the NHL’s All-Star Game in Toronto. As a key player for the Flames during their Stanley Cup victory in 1989, McDonald was known for his leadership and emotional impact on the team.
He expresses gratitude towards the healthcare professionals at Foothills Medical Centre and looks forward to watching the rest of the Flames season comfortably from home rather than from a hospital bed. He jokingly hints at the challenges of hospital WiFi with a nod to insiders. Additionally, he encourages the Flames to keep up their energetic play, as it positively affects his health.
