The Cleveland Browns are eagerly anticipating the return of star running back Nick Chubb, but they’ve struggled offensively to start the season. With a 1-2 record, it’s evident how much they miss a strong running game. Chubb is expected to be back mid-season, but his absence highlights a pressing need for the team.

While the hope is that Chubb can return to his previous form, there’s uncertainty about that. Even if he does, it might be beneficial for the Browns to bring in another capable running back to support him. CBS Sports agrees, suggesting in a recent mock draft that Cleveland should consider selecting a potential replacement or future star in the first round.

Analyst Josh Edwards predicted that with the No. 17 overall pick, the Browns could draft Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty. Edwards noted, “I am surprising myself here, and I’m going to go with Ashton Jeanty. He reminds me a bit of Jahmyr Gibbs due to his ability to contribute in the passing game as well.”

Jeanty has had an impressive start to the 2024 college football season, rushing 56 times for 586 yards and nine touchdowns over three games, averaging an outstanding 10.5 yards per carry, including a near upset against Oregon.

Ashton Jeanty NFL Draft Scouting Report

His performance suggests that he has real star potential, making him a valuable addition for the Browns as insurance for Chubb. Additionally, many mock drafts indicate that Cleveland may also consider quarterbacks like Quinn Ewers and Garrett Nussmeier.

In summary, Jeanty would be a strong pick for the Browns. While they hope for Chubb’s swift return to form, securing a solid backup would be a smart move.
