Throughout the week, numerous current and former New York Jets players were let go, with former quarterback Mike White among those facing this harsh reality. White’s release by the Miami Dolphins on Sunday came as a bit of a surprise, as he lost the backup role to Skylar Thompson, a seventh-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.

With NFL teams on the lookout for backup quarterbacks, White was well-positioned to land somewhere new. According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, he’s already done so. Schefter reported that White has signed a practice squad contract with the Buffalo Bills.

“Staying in the AFC East: Former Dolphins and Jets QB Mike White is signing with the Buffalo Bills practice squad, per sources. The Bills will be White’s third AFC East team in three seasons.”

As Schefter noted, this will be White’s third AFC East team in as many years.

White’s most notable stint was with the Jets, where he started four games in 2022 and became a fan favorite, throwing for 1,192 yards, three touchdowns, and four interceptions.

NY Jets QB Mike White: Where he thrives, where he struggles

While his stats weren’t extraordinary, his performance was enough to earn him a contract with the Dolphins last offseason. Backing up Tua Tagovailoa, White played in six games, mainly during Miami’s blowout wins, including two against New York. He recorded 74 passing yards, one touchdown, and one interception.

In those two games against the Jets, White attempted just two passes, completing both for four yards.

The Bills, who currently have only two quarterbacks on their unofficial depth chart—Josh Allen as the starter and veteran Mitchell Trubisky as his backup—will give White a shot. If either of them gets injured, White may find himself on the field once again.
