ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that Detroit Lions cornerback Emmanuel Moseley suffered a torn pectoral muscle during practice this week and will be sidelined indefinitely.

Moseley’s misfortune continues as he endures a third major injury in three seasons. After playing just five games in 2022 with the 49ers before an ACL tear, he joined the Lions only to injure his other ACL in just two snaps. Now, this torn pectoral could keep him out for months or even the entire season. Detroit must decide whether to place him on injured reserve now—making him ineligible to return this year—or during roster cuts, which would allow for a return after at least four games.

The Lions had hoped for a turnaround in Moseley’s luck when they signed him to a one-year deal worth up to $2.875 million this offseason. Moseley was transitioning from outside cornerback to the nickel position, competing with Amik Robertson for the starting spot. Coach Dan Campbell mentioned the possibility of rotating safety Ifeatu Melifonwu into the mix as well.

Detroit Lions re-sign CB Emmanuel Moseley

The team has bolstered its cornerback depth by trading for Carlton Davis, drafting Terrion Arnold and Ennis Rakestraw, and re-signing Moseley, Kindle Vildor, and Khalil Dorsey. However, Arnold left practice on Monday to be assessed for a concussion.

Updates on both Moseley and Arnold are expected during Campbell’s pre-practice press conference on Tuesday morning.
