The New England Patriots are in the midst of finalizing their roster for the 2024-25 season, but a contract dispute has arisen with returning linebacker Matthew Judon. Contrary to claims, Judon denied receiving a new offer from the team, even as he skipped training sessions.
Judon has reportedly been absent from practices and engaged in discussions with Patriots management about a new contract. Rumors circulated that the team extended a new deal in late July, but Judon firmly dismissed these reports with a statement:
“No they haven’t but it makes me look bad again. Don’t believe the lies,” Judon replied on X, formerly known as Twitter.
According to ClutchPoints’ Evan Dammarell, Judon is set to earn a base salary of $6.5 million for the 2024-25 season, along with $1 million in incentives. Judon has been vocal about his dissatisfaction with his current contract but clarified he wouldn’t hold out:
“I signed the deal; there’s my signature on it, so I’ve got to play on it,” Judon said. “Would I like to? No. Do I think that’s my value? No. But again, that’s not up to me.”
At 31, Judon is seeking a restructured deal to reflect what he believes is his true worth.
Despite playing only four games in the 2023 season due to injury, Judon had an impressive previous season, tying his career high with 60 total tackles in 17 games and achieving a career-best 15.5 sacks, along with two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery.
