Paris Saint-Germain’s interest in Leeds United winger Crysencio Summerville is genuine, though they have yet to make an official bid, according to journalist Ben Jacobs. Jacobs told GMS that Leeds will aim to convince their star player to stay despite interest from several clubs in England and Europe this summer.
Following their failed promotion attempt, Leeds is expected to see several players leave, and it’s unlikely they will retain Summerville, who had an outstanding season under Daniel Farke. The 22-year-old was named Championship Player of the Season and has attracted attention from multiple Premier League clubs, including Brighton, Chelsea, and Liverpool.
Brighton appears to be the most proactive Premier League club in pursuing Summerville, reportedly having initiated preliminary talks to sign the winger. Jacobs notes that Summerville will likely have various options by the end of the transfer window as he seeks to leave Leeds.
However, the lure of European football and substantial wages could entice the Dutchman to depart Elland Road after four years, having joined Leeds from Feyenoord in 2020.
Summerville ‘Respectful’ to Leeds
Speaking to GMS, Ben Jacobs revealed that while PSG has shown genuine interest in Leeds United winger Crysencio Summerville, they have not yet made an official bid. Jacobs noted that several Premier League clubs could still join the race for Summerville.
“PSG haven’t bid yet, but the interest is real, and as I say, there’s a handful of Premier League clubs that could still enter the race as well.
“I think by the end of the window, Summerville will have alternatives to Leeds. But what Leeds are trying to understand, now they don’t need to sell, is whether they can persuade him to do the extra year?”
Jacobs emphasized that Summerville’s situation is different from Wilfried Gnonto’s last year when the forward submitted a transfer request after Leeds rejected a bid from Everton exceeding £25 million.
“And as I said in January, Summerville was never pushing to leave Leeds. It’s not a Willy Gnonto-Everton situation. He’s always been very respectful. He’s always been very appreciative of Leeds and how they’ve helped him develop, and he likes it there.
“So if he goes, it will naturally be for an opportunity that has bigger wages, like European football.
“But if he does end up staying at Leeds, I think under that scenario, he’ll be perfectly content as well, because he’s that kind of character that’s really bought into Farke, his style, and that puts Leeds again in a stronger position.”
Summerville, who earns £15,000 per week at Elland Road, had an impressive season last year, contributing to 31 goals in 49 appearances across all competitions. Leeds manager Daniel Farke praised Summerville’s outstanding performances and crucial consistency in a Sky Sports interview earlier in the season.
