Newcastle United have opened talks with Nottingham Forest over a deal to sign Anthony Elanga with Elliot Anderson heading in the opposite direction, sources have told Football Insider.

Newcastle is reportedly offering cash and Elliot Anderson to Nottingham Forest in exchange for Anthony Elanga, the former Manchester United winger. This move is part of Newcastle’s effort to address their Premier League squad registration (PSR) issues and raise funds before Sunday’s accounts declaration deadline.

The proposal for Elanga is one of several deals Newcastle is considering as they, along with other clubs, race to comply with PSR regulations. Eddie Howe’s side had previously shown interest in the 22-year-old Elanga before his transfer to Forest last year. Now, they may need a swift replacement for Anthony Gordon, who is in discussions with Liverpool.

Newcastle United are confident in their ability to develop Anthony Elanga into a first-choice winger for the long term, especially if key players like Anthony Gordon need to be sold for financial reasons.

Elanga, a Swedish international, scored five goals and provided nine assists in 36 Premier League matches last season under Nuno Espirito Santo, helping his team avoid relegation. He also has 17 caps for Sweden and 55 appearances for Manchester United, where he scored four goals.

In the proposed deal, Elliot Anderson would move to Nottingham Forest. Forest aims to fill the gap left by the sale of Remo Freuler to Bologna and the departure of Cheikhou Kouyate. Anderson, a Newcastle youth product, would be leaving after 13 years at the club, having made 55 senior appearances.
