West Ham United now have a real chance to bring in a huge upgrade on Michail Antonio for an absolute bargain fee this summer.

However, the Spaniard definitely won’t be relying on the 34-year-old as his primary striker at the start of the season. Instead, he’s focused on signing an experienced centre-forward this summer.

The 34-year-old will be a valuable squad player next season, but not more than that.

Lopetegui is eager to strengthen his centre-forward options at the London Stadium this summer, with potential moves for Youssef En-Nesyri and Samu Omorodion in the works.

Additionally, another target is high on the Hammers’ list and will be the most affordable option…

Michail Antonio upgrade needed at West Ham

The 34-year-old has been an outstanding player for us over the years and is the Hammers’ all-time leading Premier League goalscorer.

Micky has played in every position from right-back to centre-forward for West Ham, consistently giving his all for the team.

However, there is no room for sentiment in elite sports, and Lopetegui must make a tough decision regarding the Jamaica international this summer.

Antonio no longer has his explosive pace, and his finishing has frequently been questioned.

For Lopetegui to elevate West Ham to the next level, acquiring a top-class striker this summer is crucial.

It appears that the Spaniard has a strong opportunity to achieve just that.

Path clear for West Ham to sign Simon Banza

According to the Portuguese publication Record (print edition June 6th, page 20), Simon Banza is very much available this summer.

The 27-year-old has a £34 million release clause but could potentially be acquired for just £17 million.

At that price, signing the 27-year-old should be an absolute no-brainer for the Hammers, in my opinion.

West Ham has already been linked with Banza, and I fully expect us to make a formal approach soon.

The DR Congo international striker had an outstanding season, scoring 23 goals and providing five assists in 41 games for Braga (Transfermarkt).

Standing at 6ft 2in, Banza is a physical presence who thrives in battles with opposing centre-backs.

He has plenty of pace and is a deadly finisher. I’m confident that the Democratic Republic of Congo international would be a significant upgrade on Michail Antonio for West Ham.

For just £17 million, Lopetegui can’t go wrong by signing Banza this summer.
