William Contreras, the catcher for the Milwaukee Brewers and the younger sibling of St. Louis Cardinals catcher Willson Contreras, recently addressed a contentious injury during a media briefing. On Tuesday, May 7, Willson Contreras sustained an arm fracture when a baseball bat struck his glove hand while New York Mets hitter J.D. Martinez was at bat and swung for a pitch.
In the second inning, Contreras was struck on the arm by Martinez’s swing, resulting in him being called for catchers interference and subsequently being forced to leave the game due to the injury. The St. Louis Cardinals later confirmed that he had suffered a fracture in his arm.
Todd Rosiak, the Brewers reporter for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, interviewed William Contreras following his brother’s injury. He expressed the difficulty of the situation for him and his family, also acknowledging that J.D. Martinez had struck him twice in the same game last year.
Contreras additionally recalled that Martinez had hit him with backswings twice during a game at Dodger Stadium last season.
“That happened last year at Dodger Stadium. Same guy hit me two times in the same game,” he stated. “I’m sorry for my brother.”
