According to The Detroit News, the NCAA is investigating Michigan State’s football program for recruiting violations that occurred under former head coach Mel Tucker. MSU President Kevin Guskiewicz confirmed the investigation and stated he has a meeting with the NCAA next week to discuss the matter.

While specific details have not been disclosed, Michigan State is fully cooperating with the investigation. Associate Athletic Director Matt Larson emphasized the university’s compliance, stating, “Michigan State athletics has cooperated with the NCAA to review a potential matter concerning the football program under the former staff and will continue to do so for the duration of the process.” Due to NCAA regulations, no further details can be shared at this time.

Tucker’s time in East Lansing began with promise but ended in controversy. In December 2022, he was accused of sexual harassment involving university vendor Brenda Tracy. Tucker claimed the interactions were consensual, but an internal investigation upheld Tracy’s allegations, leading to his dismissal.

Regarding the ongoing NCAA probe, Guskiewicz noted that Michigan State is working to mitigate potential penalties, arguing that the violations occurred under a previous coaching staff. “We’re trying to make the case that this is a whole new coaching staff,” he told The Detroit News.
