Notre Dame WR Micah Gilbert Suffers Hand Injury, Sidelined for Spring Football
With just a week and a half remaining in Notre Dame’s spring football season, news has emerged of an injury that occurred on the first day of practice.
Sophomore wide receiver Micah Gilbert, a former four-star recruit from Charlotte, broke his hand on Day 1 of spring workouts. The injury was confirmed Wednesday morning.
Gilbert’s Role & Impact
Gilbert appeared in three games last season but did not record any catches. He was expected to take on a bigger role this spring, gaining valuable reps alongside other young receivers as veterans Jaden Greathouse, Jordan Faison, and Malachi Fields face limited or no participation.
What This Means for Notre Dame
The silver lining? Gilbert is expected to be fully recovered by fall camp. However, losing spring reps is a setback for a young receiver looking to establish himself in a position group that remains a major question mark heading into the 2025 season.
Gilbert’s Background
At 6-foot-2, 200 pounds, Gilbert was ranked the nation’s No. 35 wide receiver in the 2024 recruiting class (ESPN) and was a high school teammate of Notre Dame defensive lineman Bryce Young.
