In another scenario, there would be no debate about Charles Jagusah’s role this season. Entering Notre Dame’s fall camp last July, he was set to start at left tackle after debuting in the Sun Bowl. However, an early torn pectoral/shoulder injury sidelined him for months, allowing freshman Anthonie Knapp to take over at left tackle while Aamil Wagner anchored the right side.
Now in his third season, Jagusah made a significant impact at right guard in the CFP semifinal against Penn State after Rocco Spindler’s injury. His performance caught the eye of offensive line coach Joe Rudolph, who praised his standout ability.
This spring, the 6-foot-7, 320-pound lineman has primarily worked at guard, despite starting at left tackle in the national championship game after Knapp’s injury. With a patchwork offensive line due to injuries, Jagusah is honing his interior skills, adjusting to quicker reads and stronger interior defenders.
Coach Rudolph’s priority is fielding the best five linemen, and Jagusah’s versatility makes him a key piece. While he has more tackle reps under his belt, he remains open to either role. For now, Notre Dame is testing his fit at guard, with a final decision expected later. The Irish wrap up spring practice with the Blue-Gold Game on April 12.
