Marcus Freeman is Building More Than a Team—He’s Building a Dynasty at Notre Dame

Marcus Freeman and his staff aren’t just assembling a roster—they’re constructing a powerhouse, piece by piece, recruit by recruit. With the Fighting Irish making a strong push toward national championship contention, Freeman has embraced a winning formula: develop elite high school talent, emphasize culture over quick fixes, and make Notre Dame the ultimate destination for top prospects.

That philosophy was on full display during “Pot of Gold” Day, where the Irish extended nearly 100 scholarship offers to the class of 2027. The result? South Bend is electric, and Notre Dame is positioning itself to land some of the nation’s premier talent.

However, in today’s recruiting landscape, success isn’t just about facilities, tradition, or even winning—it’s about NIL. Freeman understands that better than most and has made Notre Dame’s stance crystal clear.

“The reality is that players will be getting paid. And they should,” Freeman told Adam Brenneman. “What I don’t want to see is players making decisions based on money alone. But if you focus on being great, you should be compensated accordingly.”

Freeman’s NIL vision isn’t about chasing short-term paydays; it’s about ensuring players maximize their long-term value on and off the field.

“At the end of the day, we need you to commit to being the best version of yourself, the best teammate you can be. That’s where your focus should be.”

That message is clearly resonating, as Notre Dame is closing in on a historic recruiting class. Leading the charge is Rodney Dunham Jr., a five-star standout and North Carolina’s No. 1 player. Ranked as the No. 3 EDGE rusher and No. 7 overall prospect in the class of 2025 (per On3), Dunham left South Bend raving about his visit.

“Great school with great people,” Dunham said, after connecting with defensive line coach Al Washington and Freeman himself.

With Freeman’s hands-on recruiting style and a clear NIL strategy, Notre Dame is on the verge of something special. Dunham’s visit could be just the beginning of a massive recruiting wave for the Irish defense.
