Caitlin Clark, along with Angel Reese, Lisa Leslie, Magic Johnson, and others, reacted to the heartbreaking news about JuJu Watkins. The USC Trojans sophomore suffered an ACL injury early in the first quarter against Mississippi State on Monday night.
After learning that Watkins’ season had come to an abrupt end, many took to social media to share their support. Clark expressed her encouragement on X, predicting a strong return for the 19-year-old star guard.
“Sending all my thoughts and prayers to JuJu. Kid will come back stronger than ever ❤️,” the Indiana Fever star posted.
Even without Watkins on the court, USC remained dominant, cruising to a 96-59 victory. Before her injury, Watkins had only managed three points from free throws. In her absence, Kiki Iriafen stepped up with a season-high 36 points.
“It’s tough losing such a key player,” Iriafen told ESPN. “For us, it was about making sure we got the job done. We want to keep our season alive.”
Without Watkins, USC faces a tougher road ahead as they prepare for a showdown with Kansas State on March 29. Watkins had been on track for a potential Elite Eight rematch against UConn’s Paige Bueckers. Though Clark never faced Watkins during her freshman year, the two have consistently shown mutual respect.
