The New England Patriots arguably had the NFL’s weakest group of offensive weapons last season, making Drake Maye’s performance even more impressive. However, the team must now build a stronger supporting cast around him for long-term success.

One of New England’s key offseason decisions involves veteran wide receiver Kendrick Bourne, who was signed to a three-year extension despite coming off a torn ACL. The 29-year-old struggled in 2024, recording just 28 catches for 305 yards and one touchdown in 12 games.

With two years left on his contract and cap hits of $7.9 million in both 2025 and 2026, Bourne’s production doesn’t justify the cost. Spotrac’s Michael Ginnitti has named him the most likely Patriots player to be released this offseason, suggesting that parting ways would free up $5.1 million in cap space.

While the Patriots already have significant financial flexibility, clearing additional room could be beneficial as they reshape their receiving corps for the future.
