Patriots Eyeing Hidden Gem in NFL Draft to Bolster WR Corps

The New England Patriots are poised to land a potential draft-day steal as they look to revamp their offense. After fielding one of the weakest skill-position groups in the league last season, the Pats are expected to be aggressive in upgrading their roster, particularly at wide receiver.

While New England is rumored to be a major contender for Tee Higgins in free agency, they may also target additional receiving talent in the draft. Ian Valentino of The 33rd Team projects the Patriots to snag Utah State wideout Jalen Royals in the third round, utilizing one of their two third-round picks this April.

Royals showcased his playmaking ability in 2024, posting 55 catches for 834 yards and six touchdowns, averaging an impressive 15.2 yards per reception. His 2023 campaign was even more explosive, with 71 receptions, 1,080 yards, and 15 touchdowns.

With elite speed, reliable hands, and polished route-running, Royals has the tools to thrive at the next level. While playing in the Mountain West Conference might raise questions about his competition level, his raw talent is undeniable.

New England drafted Ja’Lynn Polk and Javon Baker last year, but both struggled in their rookie seasons. This time, the Patriots are expected to focus on acquiring a proven veteran in free agency while using the draft to add complementary pieces like Royals.
