The New York Rangers sit just three points out of a wild card spot after winning their final game before the Four Nations Face-Off. Withhttp://New York Rangers the March 7 trade deadline approaching, they have a critical stretch ahead to determine their strategy.

The Rangers have three possible paths:

1. Sellers

If they fall short of a playoff push, the team has assets that could bring solid returns. Pending UFAs like Ryan Lindgren, Reilly Smith, and Jimmy Vesey could draw interest, particularly Lindgren, who provides size and toughness on defense. If they go all-in on selling, they might even consider moving playoff veteran Chris Kreider for a significant return.

2. Buy and Sell

A balanced approach could see them offloading players unlikely to return next season—such as Lindgren, Smith, and Vesey—while acquiring win-now pieces to stay competitive. Instead of focusing on future assets, they’d look for reinforcements who can contribute beyond just a short-term rental.

3. Buyers

If the Rangers go on a hot streak and secure a playoff spot, they should target impact players to strengthen their top six. Potential trade targets include Mikko Rantanen (if Carolina doesn’t extend him) or Brock Boeser, a pending UFA who could add much-needed scoring punch alongside JT Miller.

With the trade deadline looming, the Rangers must decide: sell, buy, or find a middle ground. Their performance in the coming weeks will dictate their course of action.
