Blues and Penguins Complete AHL Trade, Swap Forwards

The St. Louis Blues and Pittsburgh Penguins have finalized an AHL trade, with the Blues sending forward Mathias Laferriere to the Penguins in exchange for forward Corey Andonovski.

This season, Andonovski has recorded three goals and five points in 27 games for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, while Laferriere has tallied two goals and ten points in 33 games for the Springfield Thunderbirds.

Both players bring size to their new teams. Pittsburgh acquires a younger, more seasoned AHL forward in Laferriere, while St. Louis adds a grittier, more physical presence in Andonovski—a key asset as the Thunderbirds push for a playoff spot.

Originally a sixth-round pick by the Blues in 2018, Laferriere has compiled 21 goals and 70 points across 207 career AHL games. Meanwhile, Andonovski, a native of Uxbridge, Ontario, signed with the Penguins’ affiliate in 2022 after four years at Princeton University. He has 18 goals and 54 points in 157 career AHL appearances.

Both players are set to become Group 6 unrestricted free agents at the conclusion of the 2024-25 season.
