The Atlanta Braves’ offseason has been fairly quiet, with their biggest move being the signing of Jurickson Profar to a three-year, $42 million deal. However, the team has also lost key players like ace Max Fried, who joined the New York Yankees, and veteran Charlie Morton, who moved to the Baltimore Orioles.
With a weakened starting rotation and pitching depth already a concern following a tough 2024 season, the Braves are in desperate need of reinforcements. The free-agent pitching market is rapidly shrinking, which could prompt Atlanta to explore trade options rather than continuing to target remaining available arms.
Zach Pressnell of FanSided proposed Marcus Stroman, a 33-year-old right-hander currently with the Yankees, as a potential target for the Braves. Stroman posted a 10-9 record with a 4.31 ERA in 29 starts and one relief appearance last season. While no longer an ace, Stroman remains a dependable veteran who can log innings and bring stability to a rotation in need.
The Braves have successfully revived pitchers like Chris Sale in the past, and they could aim to do the same with Stroman. Adding him would also reunite Stroman with Alex Anthopoulos, who was in charge of Toronto’s baseball operations during Stroman’s time there.
As spring training nears, the Braves must decide if signing Stroman is the right move to bolster their rotation. If they act, Stroman could be the ideal fit to fill the void left by Fried and Morton’s departures.
