The Baltimore Ravens are heading into free agency with clear priorities, chief among them addressing a glaring weakness: their pass defense.
Ranking 31st in the NFL against the pass in 2024, Baltimore finds itself in an unusual position for a franchise known for defensive excellence. With limited cap space, the Ravens must make strategic moves rather than big splashes this offseason.
One promising target is Las Vegas Raiders safety Tre’von Moehrig. ESPN‘s Benjamin Solak predicts Moehrig could land in Baltimore to bolster the secondary.
“The Ravens’ age and lack of speed in the secondary nearly swamped their season, and they’ll be desperate to avoid a similar trap in 2025,” Solak noted. “They will go after free agent safety Tre’von Moehrig, who had a strong contract year with the Raiders.”
Moehrig delivered an outstanding 2024 season, logging 104 tackles, a sack, two interceptions, two fumble recoveries, and 10 passes defended. Drafted by the Raiders in the second round in 2021, the TCU product gradually developed before breaking out in 2023 with 83 tackles, two sacks, three picks, and eight passes defended.
Moehrig could form a dynamic tandem with Kyle Hamilton in Baltimore’s secondary, addressing a critical need for speed and youth.
Given the devaluation of the safety position in the NFL, Moehrig may not demand a hefty price tag, even after his standout season. This aligns well with Baltimore’s limited cap space, currently sitting at $8.7 million.
The Ravens will need to allocate their resources carefully, but a signing like Moehrig could be pivotal in revitalizing their pass defense for 2025.
