The Pittsburgh Steelers face a critical offseason after ending the 2024 regular season with four consecutive losses, followed by a humiliating playoff defeat to the Baltimore Ravens. Despite making the postseason in four of the last five years, the Steelers haven’t won a playoff game since January 2017 and have hovered around mediocrity for the past half-decade.

One major question mark is at quarterback. Russell Wilson, who started most of the season, showed flashes early on but struggled in December and January, highlighting that his best days are behind him. Meanwhile, Justin Fields started several games early in the season, delivering a 4-2 record with ten touchdowns and just two turnovers, offering a glimpse of potential.

With Russell Wilson and Justin Fields set to become unrestricted free agents this offseason, the Pittsburgh Steelers may look to shake up their quarterback situation. General manager Omar Khan could opt to bring in a new starting quarterback, and one name making the rounds is Seattle Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith, according to Steelers Now’s Alan Saunders.

Smith, entering the final year of his contract at age 35, is unlikely to return to Seattle after this season. Despite the potential cost of a trade and Smith’s $31 million salary for 2025, Saunders believes he could be a valuable addition to Pittsburgh’s lineup.

Smith has rejuvenated his career in Seattle, earning Pro Bowl selections in 2022 and 2023 while leading the Seahawks to three consecutive winning seasons, including a playoff appearance two years ago. His accuracy is a standout feature, with a 70.4% completion rate in 2024 and a league-leading 69.8% in 2022.

As a proven starter in a competitive NFC West, Smith could serve as a reliable bridge quarterback for Pittsburgh, bringing stability and fitting well into an offense that thrives on a solid rushing attack and play-action passing.
