Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers won’t be making an appearance in the College Football Playoff National Championship after the Longhorns’ 28-14 loss to Ohio State in the Cotton Bowl Classic. Many anticipate he will officially declare for the 2025 NFL Draft, a decision he hinted at during an ESPN interview before the matchup with the Buckeyes.
However, the potential move has sparked mixed reactions. Once projected as a first-round pick before the 2024 season, Ewers’ draft stock has since dropped to a mid-to-late-round projection.
USA Today’s Matt Hayes suggests that Quinn Ewers might consider returning to college football, with powerhouse programs like Georgia, USC, and Ohio State potentially in the mix. Georgia, which defeated Texas twice this season—including in the SEC Championship Game—could be a prime suitor.
“If Ewers hits the college football open market, multiple blue blood, deep-pocketed teams will likely bid for him, including Ohio State, Georgia, and Southern California — all capable of making him an offer he can’t refuse,” Hayes wrote.
With Carson Beck reportedly earning over $3 million in NIL deals with Miami, Hayes speculates Ewers could command an even more lucrative offer. Programs like UGA, USC, and Ohio State, needing quarterbacks and boasting financial resources, could easily craft deals under the $20.5 million NIL revenue-sharing model.
Ewers is a proven leader, having guided Texas to two consecutive College Football Playoff semifinals. Joining Georgia or Ohio State might further enhance his chances of securing a third CFP run next season.
