Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Jermaine Burton is facing accusations of assaulting a woman. However, Cincinnati police have reported that the alleged victim has chosen not to press charges against the NFL player.
Jermaine Burton Accused of Assault, No Charges Pursued
The incident, which reportedly occurred on December 30, involves claims that Burton attempted to choke a 19-year-old woman and threatened to harm himself with a knife to his neck.
Burton and the 19-year-old woman had reportedly been in an on-and-off relationship for about a month after meeting in September. Following the alleged assault, the woman called emergency services around 8:45 a.m., with police reports noting that she was crying during the call (via The Cincinnati Enquirer).
Prior to the reported assault and threats of self-harm, Burton allegedly argued with the woman, chased her into her apartment in the Oakley neighborhood, and destroyed her phone.
During the 911 call, the woman described Burton as “pretty abusive,” labeling him a “narcissist” and a “manipulator.” She stated, “He does a lot of things that I don’t tolerate,” and claimed they had been out together before the incident. After a fight, she returned to her home alone, only to find Burton waiting outside, preventing her from entering. “I don’t f****** deserve this,” the woman told the operator. “I’m only 19.”
When police arrived at the scene, they found the woman with minor injuries, but Burton had already left. Initially, the woman expressed a desire to press charges but later decided against it.
In a statement to The Enquirer, the Bengals acknowledged awareness of the incident, stating, “We will continue to evaluate as we gather additional details and will have no further comment at this time.”
