A former Denver Broncos defensive back has suggested that safety Justin Simmons may be interested in returning to his old team. Simmons, who spent the first eight years of his career with the Broncos and endured eight seasons without reaching the playoffs, was released by the team this spring. He later signed a one-year deal with the Atlanta Falcons.
While the Broncos made the NFL playoffs in 2024, the Falcons were unable to secure a postseason spot. In light of this, an ex-teammate of Simmons, Su’a Cravens, hinted that the safety could be open to a return to Denver. Cravens tweeted earlier this week, “Been speaking to J the last few weeks… Broncos Country, wouldn’t yal love to see Justin finish his career in Orange & Blue?! 🫣👀 I know that door ain’t closed if Sean wanted to make that call next season … I’m just sayin 🤷🏽♂️ #BroncosCountry.”
At 31 years old, Simmons is set to become a free agent in March. The Broncos replaced him with Brandon Jones, who had a standout season in 2024. If Simmons were to return to Denver in 2025, it’s uncertain whether he would immediately regain his starting role with the team.
While Cravens’ social media posts have occasionally been inaccurate in the past, he appears to maintain a close friendship with Simmons. Notably, Cravens accurately reported last summer that Simmons was finalizing a contract with the Falcons.
Whether Simmons will indeed return to Denver remains uncertain, but his connection to the team and the potential opportunity to reunite with the Broncos could make this a storyline to watch in the coming months.
