Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes have been active in the 2025 transfer portal, making a notable impact, but they recently suffered a significant setback. Despite the success they’ve experienced, currently sitting at No. 17 in the transfer portal rankings with 12 new incoming players, Colorado has seen 19 players enter the portal, according to 247Sports.
On Thursday, the team lost a key player when offensive tackle Kahlil Benson announced his decision to enter the transfer portal, as reported by Pete Nakos from On3 Sports. Benson, who played in nine games during his only season with the Buffaloes, showed versatility by filling multiple positions on the offensive line, including right guard, left guard, and right tackle, although injuries limited his playtime.
As an experienced veteran, Benson was a crucial part of Colorado’s offensive line, which struggled throughout the season and allowed 42 sacks on quarterback Shedeur Sanders. His departure marks a significant loss for the team, as he was arguably one of the most versatile players on the offensive line. Prior to joining Colorado for the 2024 season, Benson had a solid career with the Indiana Hoosiers, having played in 24 games across four seasons.
While the Buffaloes are losing 19 players to the transfer portal, there is still a possibility for some of them to return to the team, as unsigned players retain the option to rejoin the program. The first transfer portal window, which ran from Dec. 9 to Dec. 28, has now closed, but athletes involved in postseason play still have the opportunity to make their decisions moving forward.
