According to Fluto Shinzawa of The Athletic, Boston Bruins forward Trent Frederic’s trade value is significantly declining across the NHL. Once considered a highly sought-after player and a potential asset at the trade deadline, Frederic’s recent performance raises questions about whether the Bruins can secure much value for him in a trade.

Shinzawa highlights Frederic’s dwindling offensive production and physicality as key factors behind this drop. The forward, who was the 29th overall pick in the 2016 draft, has been stuck at five goals and six assists since December 7, failing to record a single point in his last nine games. This scoreless streak is his longest since 2021, marking a troubling trend as he approaches unrestricted free agency (UFA). Shinzawa notes this slump negatively affects Frederic’s trade value and leverage in contract extension talks with the Bruins.

Adding to the concerns is Frederic’s lack of physical presence on the ice, which has historically been a hallmark of his game. For example, during a recent matchup against the Columbus Blue Jackets, opposing forward Mathieu Olivier made a noticeable impact with two fights and physical play, while Frederic seemed absent in comparison. This raises doubts about his ability to deliver the grit and intensity that teams expect from a player of his style.

In an article aptly titled “Bruins’ Trent Frederic has gone missing, and it’s sinking his trade value,” Shinzawa emphasizes the urgent need for Frederic to turn things around. Interim head coach Joe Sacco addressed the situation, suggesting that Frederic needs to focus on his fundamentals: moving his feet, playing with physicality, and excelling in defensive battles. Sacco believes that when Frederic commits to these aspects of his game, his performance improves significantly.

The Bruins are experimenting with different linemates for Frederic in hopes of reigniting his game. However, the onus is on Frederic to rediscover his edge and make himself an asset once more. Without this improvement, his value—both to the Bruins and potential trade partners—will remain in freefall.
