Are the Atlanta Braves quietly preparing for a significant move in free agency? While their offseason activity has been relatively quiet so far, their potential to make an impactful signing remains high. Their most notable acquisition this winter has been Bryan De La Cruz, a fringe outfielder recently non-tendered by the Pittsburgh Pirates. However, with considerable spending power at their disposal, the Braves may still have a blockbuster deal in the works.

Heading into the 2025 season, Atlanta boasts a formidable top four in their pitching rotation. Veterans Chris Sale, Spencer Schwellenbach, and Reynaldo López are expected to be joined by a healthy Spencer Strider early in the year. This group forms an excellent foundation for a team with championship aspirations, but adding another top-tier pitcher through free agency could elevate the Braves to another level and strengthen their chances for a National League pennant.

Speculation about Atlanta’s potential moves has included predictions about their interest in Los Angeles Dodgers’ World Series starter Jack Flaherty. In a recent Instagram video, content creator Steven Russell confidently suggested that Flaherty could join the Braves. “I still like Jack Flaherty to the Braves,” Russell remarked.

Flaherty’s 2024 campaign showcased his talent, as he posted a 3.17 ERA and 194 strikeouts over 162 innings, splitting time between the Dodgers and Detroit Tigers. Known for his high strikeout numbers, Flaherty has a fourth-place Cy Young finish to his credit, though he has yet to earn an All-Star nod.

According to projections, Flaherty is expected to command a four-year, $92 million contract, a deal that could appeal to the Braves. Though Atlanta typically avoids lengthy commitments to starting pitchers, this relatively young free agent might fit within their budget. If signed, Flaherty could join an already stellar rotation, potentially making Atlanta’s pitching staff the most dominant in Major League Baseball.
