The Detroit Lions are reuniting with a familiar face to strengthen their special teams and linebacking corps. Anthony Pittman, a 28-year-old linebacker, is set to return to Detroit after previously spending five seasons with the team from 2019 to 2023.

Earlier this offseason, Pittman signed with the Washington Commanders but was released in late August. Since then, he’s been part of the Jacksonville Jaguars’ practice squad, continuing to hone his skills. Known for his contributions on special teams, Pittman tallied 29 tackles during his previous tenure with the Lions.

Pittman’s reliability and versatility made him a key presence for Detroit over the last two seasons. In both 2022 and 2023, he appeared in all 17 regular-season games, as well as all three of Detroit’s postseason matchups. A former Wayne State standout, Pittman went undrafted in 2019 but quickly found a home with the Lions, where his work ethic and special teams contributions earned him consistent opportunities.

Last season, Pittman shared his excitement over Detroit’s resurgence, particularly their first division title in decades. Like many of his teammates, he has been inspired by the opportunity to help bring long-awaited success to the Lions and their passionate fanbase.

Reflecting on the possibility of winning the Super Bowl, Pittman expressed the emotional significance of such a moment. “I’ve just been thinking about what it would be like if we go all the way. The parade, the love from the city — it’s insane to think about,” Pittman said in a previous interview. “It’s been cool so far, but I really want to get this done so we can make history.”

With Pittman back in the mix, the Lions gain a proven contributor who understands the culture and expectations in Detroit. His return adds depth to a promising young roster as the team continues its push toward championship aspirations.
