The USC Trojans’ recruiting class has taken another blow as three-star running back Duane Morris has flipped his commitment to the Tennessee Volunteers. A native of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Morris opted to stay closer to home rather than make the move to Southern California.

With the early signing period opening on Dec. 4, proximity is becoming a key factor for recruits considering cross-country moves. Morris, who visited Tennessee twice during the season but never attended a USC game in person, had been trending toward flipping. His decision was solidified after Tennessee’s victory over Kentucky in early November.

Speaking with On3’s Chad Simmons, Morris highlighted the appeal of staying in-state:
“It is a different standard when you are an in-state recruit and you get to stay home and play for Tennessee,” Morris said. “Tennessee has been pushing for a while, and I have been thinking about it for a few weeks. I really knew after the Kentucky game.”

Morris also emphasized the connection he felt during his visits, particularly his Nov. 23 official visit.
“I got there and saw again how genuine the people were. I felt the love from the fans and just had that connection with everyone,” Morris explained. “The official visit this weekend was like the icing on the cake for me and my parents, but I’ve known about my decision for a few weeks. The opportunity at Tennessee is great for me.”

Under head coach Lincoln Riley, USC has consistently attracted top talent at skill positions, and while losing Morris is a setback, the Trojans’ offensive system remains a strong draw for future recruits.

Following Morris’ decommitment, USC’s 2025 recruiting class now ranks No. 14 nationally. Earlier the same day, the Trojans also lost linebacker Ty Jackson, who flipped his commitment to the Florida Gators. With 21 recruits currently committed, the early signing period and National Signing Day could still bring surprises for USC and its competitors.
