It’s been a challenging year for Florida State head coach Mike Norvell and the Seminoles, and the situation has taken another hit on the recruiting front.
On Tuesday, the Florida Gators gained a significant victory as four-star running back Byron Louis from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, flipped his commitment from Florida State to Florida.
Louis, who initially committed to FSU in September over programs like Miami, Wisconsin, and Georgia, recently had a change of heart after visiting Gainesville. He took an unofficial visit in mid-November, followed by an official visit the following weekend.
BREAKING: Four-Star RB Byron Louis has flipped his commitment from Florida State to Florida, he tells me for @on3recruits
The 6’0″, 205-pound RB from Pembroke Pines, FL, had been committed to the Seminoles since September.
Louis was in attendance for two pivotal Florida victories: their triumph over No. 22 LSU and an upset win against No. 9 Ole Miss. These performances, paired with a strong recruiting push from head coach Billy Napier, appear to have sealed the deal.
This flip is a major win for the Gators, as Louis is ranked No. 17 among running backs in the 2025 class, according to the 247Sports Composite. During his standout season at American Heritage, he rushed for 1,313 yards and 13 touchdowns on 157 carries, while also recording three receiving touchdowns.
Billy Napier, who entered the season facing questions about his job security, seems to be steering Florida back toward contention, and landing Louis is a clear sign of momentum on the recruiting trail.
