Former two-time Super Bowl champion Shaq Barrett is considering a return to the NFL.

Barrett, currently under contract with the Miami Dolphins, had announced his retirement in July to focus on family time. However, the 32-year-old linebacker has reportedly reconsidered, according to his agent. Though Barrett is open to playing for Miami, it remains uncertain if the team will create a roster spot for him, as he has yet to play a game since signing with the Dolphins in March.

Undrafted in 2014, Barrett carved out an impressive NFL career. He joined the Denver Broncos and appeared in 61 games with them from 2015-2018. In 2019, Barrett signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, where he thrived. He led the league with 19.5 sacks in his first season with the Bucs, earning Pro Bowl honors. He made the Pro Bowl again in 2021 after recording 51 tackles and 10 sacks.

Barrett has two Super Bowl titles to his name, one with Denver in 2015 and another with Tampa Bay in 2020.

Off the field, Barrett faced a family tragedy last year when his youngest child passed away in an accidental drowning. He and his wife have three other children together.

Barrett’s potential return adds intrigue, and it remains to be seen whether the Dolphins or another team will offer him an opportunity to play again.
